A Chelyabinsk-based company is supplying composite construction materials for the landmark waterfront project in Balneário Camboriú — Brazil's most expensive city, nicknamed the "Brazilian Dubai." The joint venture established by Composite Group has become Latin America's first composite rebar manufacturing facility.
Balneário Camboriú is unlike any other city in Brazil. Located in Santa Catarina — the country's wealthiest and safest state — it tops national rankings for real estate prices, draws millionaires as its primary residents, and is defined by sweeping sandy beaches lined with skyscrapers built right on the waterfront. Locals call it the "Brazilian Dubai." It is precisely here that Composite Group's materials are helping shape a world-class urban environment.
The contract to supply composite mesh for the construction of the city's main embankment was awarded to Composite Group Brazil — a joint venture founded by Oleg Belyaev, CEO of Composite Group, together with Brazilian partners. The enterprise became the first composite rebar production facility in Latin America.
"Our plant runs on Russian technology, equipped with machine lines developed and patented by Composite Group. Current capacity stands at 20 million linear meters of finished product per year," says Leandro Weger, Managing Partner of Composite Group Brazil.
The composite materials produced at the facility outperform conventional steel alternatives across several key parameters. For coastal construction in particular, one advantage proves decisive: corrosion resistance.
"Composite Group's product incorporates a number of unique patented features. The mesh is manufactured in a fully automated process: the machine bonds longitudinal and transverse rods through controlled thread distribution with variable twisting — achieving near-uniform tensile characteristics across all mesh rods and precise cell geometry," explains Oleg Belyaev.
The collaboration between Chelyabinsk and Brazilian engineers goes well beyond plant launch and technology transfer. Brazil was also the first country where South Ural-manufactured composite mesh was applied in multi-storey construction — specifically in hollow-core floor slabs. This technology has since become widely adopted across precast concrete plants in Russia.
Another milestone: Composite Group played a direct role in developing Latin America's first national standard for composite construction materials — Brazil's national standard. The document has already been approved and is completing its final procedural steps. Created jointly by Russian engineers and Brazilian scientists, the standard is expected to be adopted across LATAM countries and is set to give significant new momentum to the industry region-wide.
